Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney claims that if he is elected into office, he will create more than 12 million new jobs in his first term, a pace of 250,000 jobs each month. And the real kicker: The Romney presidential campaign predicts 7 million of these new jobs will be generated simply by cutting taxes.

This is, in a word, unbelievable. Kevin Hassett, economic advisor to the Romney campaign, said on National Public Radio recently that “Gov. Romney’s tax plan is modeled after the successful tax plans of the past, and it would generate growth because it would increase the incentive to do things that are good for America’s economy and America’s workers.” But we’ve heard this hyperbole before. Hassett was a part of the team claiming that President George W. Bush’s supply-side economics would create a strong economy. In fact, actual economic performance under these policies fell more than 8 million jobs short of what Bush economic advisors predicted. Hassett was wrong t ... Read more »

With the NHL's lockout dragging on for months and little movement from either side, fans are starting to lose it. Since the NHL knew they were losing the publicity battle, they got GOP strategist Frank Luntz to help win back fans and get leverage in the negotiations.

Luntz was hired to hastily throw together a focus group of hockey fans ("of the 30 people, 75 percent were men, and all but three or four were white") to figure out a pro-owner's message they could deliver to fans with a straight face. A participant in the survey leaked the questionnaire and information packet to Deadspin's Barry Petchesky. As Petchesky explains, Luntz has some experience with crafting a message:

The head of an Ohio soup kitchen said Ryan and his team “ramrodded their way” into a photo op.

The head of a charity in Ohio is not pleased with Paul Ryan’s photo op at a soup kitchen in Ohio, saying that the Romney campaign “ramrodded their way” into their facility unannounced.

The president of the Mahoning County St. Vincent De Paul Society, Brian J. Antag, told the Washington Post: “We’re a faith-based organization; we are apolitical because the majority of our funding is from private donations. It’s strictly in our bylaws not to do it. They showed up there and they did not have permission. They got one of the volunteers to open up the doors.”

Is Romney really a job creator? Ronald Reagan’s budget director, David Stockman, takes a scalpel to the claims.

Bain Capital is a product of the Great Deformation. It has garnered fabulous winnings through leveraged speculation in financial markets that have been perverted and deformed by decades of money printing and Wall Street coddling by the Fed. So Bain’s billions of profits were not rewards for capitalist creation; they were mainly windfalls collected from gambling in markets that were rigged to rise.

Louisiana State of Emergency: Oil and gas sinkhole disaster area risks and rights violations escalating

A possible breach of a butane-filled well 1500 feet from Bayou Corne's sinkhole, the size of three football fields, is so "very serious," it has Assumption Parish sheriff and local residents ordered to evacuate worried about a catastrophic explosion, one according to scientists in an Examiner investigation, would be in the range of one and a half B83 thermonuclear (hydrogen) bombs, the most powerful United States weapons in active service.

During an important election to decide the fate and direction of a country, a voter is likely to consider a candidate’s consistency of actions, values, methods, principles, and expectations, as well as outcomes from previous experience in political office before supporting a candidate. Many voters contemplate a candidate’s honesty and truthfulness, or accuracy of actions, before deciding to cast their vote, and few would choose a candidate renowned for lies and hypocrisy because it defines the candidate as morally deficient with anti-social tendencies. Americans are witnessing a morally deficient candidate for the presidency, and if it is not obvious by now that Willard Mitt Romney is a pathological liar, a hypocrite, and deceitful in words and deeds, it is about time his possible mental illness, Antisocial Personality Disorder (ASP), is exposed to the American people.

A longtime aide to George W. Romney issued a harshly worded critique of Mitt Romney, accusing him of shifting political positions in “erratic and startling ways” and failing to live up to the distinguished record of his father, the former governor of Michigan.

Walter De Vries, who worked for the senior Mr. Romney throughout the 1960s, wrote that Mitt Romney’s bid for the White House was “a far cry from the kind of campaign and conduct, as a public servant, I saw during the seven years I worked in George Romney’s campaigns and served him as governor.”

“While it seems that Mitt would say and do anything to close a deal – or an election,” he wrote, “George Romney’s strength as a politician and public officeholder was his ability and determination to develop and hold consistent policy positions over his life.”

In 2010, a series of suicides among workers at a Chinese manufacturing plant that makes iPhones brought worldwide attention to Foxconn — and difficult ethical questions about what’s behind some of our most beloved gadgets. At the time, amid charges of “labor camp” conditions, things were so grim at the world’s ostensible “biggest electronics maker” — supplying not just Apple but Dell and Hewlett-Packard — the company was driven to install nets to prevent workers from hurling themselves to their deaths. Were the over one dozen suicides over a short period of time an act of protest? Were they the result of stress culminating from the alleged 12-hour days that went into making Apple’s first generation iPad? And were we, with our dependence on the newest, shiniest handheld devices to entertain us, in any way morally accountable for the fates of factory workers half a world away? All intriguing questions. And for answers, naturally, there’s an app for that.

Your passive performance in the last debate was damaging because it reenforced the Republican claim that you’ve been too passive in getting jobs back and in responding to terrorism abroad.

That doesn’t mean you have to “come out swinging” this time. You need to be yourself, and one of your qualities that the public finds reassuring is your steadiness and authenticity, by contrast to Romney’s unsteady flip-flopping and apparent willingness to say and be anything. But you will need to be more energetic and passionate.

Electronic voting machines owned by Mitt Romney's business buddies are set to count the votes in Cincinnati could decide the 2012 election.

The narrative is already being hyped by the corporate media. As Kelly O'Donnell reported for NBC's Today Show on Monday, October 8, Ohio's Hamilton County is "ground zero" for deciding who holds the White House come January, 2013.

O'Donnell pointed out that no candidate has won the White House without carrying Ohio since John Kennedy did it in 1960. No Republican has EVER won the White House without Ohio's electoral votes.
