I am late to the party when it comes to Morris Berman, but in watching this video of him discussing the overall ideas of his book Why America Failed, I find his argument compelling, esp. against the background of his thesis of how and why our American values and beliefs operate to keep us in the dark.
Much like the thinking of Howard Zinn and Chris Hedges.
