I am posting this story in the Forum because it seems to be a topic that is either greeted with derision or dismissed as trivial by some here. I am puzzled that an issue which has the potential to effect 100 plus million women in this country alone, is regarded in this light.
Let's be clear: the likelihood of Roe v Wade being overturned, at this moment, is not the point. It is what is being done now, in the individual states, passing laws that will deny women control of their bodies that is important. While these laws are unconstitutional and will eventually be found to be so, women are and will continue to suffer under them as long as they remain in effect. And as more states sign onto this medievalism the suffering will likewise increase.
The particular items discussed on the RMS were 1) the invasive vaginal ultrasound that must be performed before the privilege of being allowed an abortion is granted, and 2) the “women will lie about anything to get an abortion” or “it's not really rape unless the police have been informed” parts of the Wisconsin law.
I'm not certain if anyone was actually listening to what was being said, but if not, they missed the painful yet matter of fact story of Wisconsin state representative, Mandy Wright, recounting her own rape as an eight year old by her cousin.
Clearly no one here indicated any appreciation for just how difficult that was for her to do, in front of a room full of strangers and watched on tv by even more. I know, however. I was raped when I was 11, by a “friend” of the family. And while time does diminish somethings, I find even now, as I am writing this my heart is pounding in my chest and I feel like throwing up.
So, here is the piece. Maybe it can be watched again, this time with a better sense of empathy.
Please watch and think of the women in your life.

Thanks for posting Blue, I think that what the repukelican-controlled legislature is doing in the red states they occupy is nothing less than reprehensible. One would would think that there are other issues more worthy of addressing like the unemployment crisis or the crumbling infrastructure and the growing wealth inequality gap that should be at the forefront of bills proposed. However, thanks to the fascist state that America has now become and the implementation of laws like citizens united and the ability of groups like ALEC to write laws that can only be brought to fruition in a partisan way.... there is nothing short of a complete currency and bank meltdown that will force the institutions into a true global reset of true price discovery of wealth and tangible assets. Unfortunately, I believe that outcome will only happen after WWIII is well underway.....
God Bless Us All Until That Day Comes.....
