This is a straight, no frills autobiography (with help from Rick Stroud) by Mr. Gregg. Considering what he has seen and done, this book is remarkably succinct and brief, and well worth the read. From his childhood in the streets of London, through the war years, as an unofficial spy during the Cold War era, to at last (we think) settling down as a senior citizen, this is one amazing guy. We have come to recognize people like him from movies like "The Hurt Locker": once the adrenaline addiction takes over, it is hard to stop. Sometimes I had to reread sections because he would describe something so horrible (he was in Dresden as a POW during the fire storm): did her really just say that??!!
Mr. Gregg doesn't dwell on things and moves on quickly. He tries to see all sides, but he comes down hard on his own government. He was an early member of the Communist Party in response to things he saw in Britain at the time, but the CP also disillusioned him as well. There is some introspection, but this book is really his tale to tell. I especially enjoyed his later years, in his 60's, acting as a courier behind the Iron Curtain, on his "motorcycle holidays".
