COVERT TOWNSHIP, MICH. — Operators of the Palisades Nuclear Power Plant in southwestern have removed it from service because of a repeat water leak from a tank that caused seepage into the control room last year.
Operators say they took the plant off line Sunday morning for repairs to the safety injection/refueling water tank. The plant is along Lake Michigan in Van Buren County’s Covert Township, about 80 miles east-northeast of Chicago.
The Nuclear Regulatory Commission says Sunday’s shutdown happened after the water tank exceeded a 38 gallon daily leak limit set in a 2012 letter that followed the earlier shutdown.
