Police have arrested three people for blocking the removal of equipment from the Sensata Technologies plant in Freeport, Illinois, to protest a plan by Bain Capital to close the factory and ship their jobs to China. Workers at Sensata have set up an encampment called "Bainport" across the street from the facility to protest plans to close the plant and move operations to China, taking 170 jobs with it. Sensata is owned by Bain Capital, the private equity firm co-founded by Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney. We hear from two of the detained protesters: Karri Penniston, 16, whose mother works at Sensata; and Debi Kempel, a Bainport supporter from nearby Pearl City.
New York Police Department officers berated a young African-American man named Alvin during a so-called stop-and-frisk in 2011, an audio recording obtained by The Nation revealed.
In the clip, the officers tell Alvin that he is being stopped because he kept looking at them with his hood up. As he was being searched, one officer threatened to arrest Alvin for “being a fucking mutt.” Another officer added: “Dude, I’m gonna break your fuckin’ arm, then I’m gonna punch you in the fuckin’ face.”
But the officers were apparently unable to find anything illegal on Alvin and he was not arrested.
“He grabbed me by my bookbag and he started pushing me down. So I’m going backwards like down the hill and he just kept pushing me, pushing me, it looked like he we was going to hit me. I felt like they was trying to make me resist or fight back,” Alvin told The Nation.
An Ohio prison owned by Corrections Corporation of America, one of the largest private prison companies in the US, has failed to meet state standards in food quality, sanitation, hygiene, and many other areas, according to a recently concluded audit. In total, the CCA prison had 47 violations.

The local fire plan had no specific steps to release inmates from locked areas in case of emergency, and local employees said “they had no idea what they should do” in case of a fire emergency.
