The Web may be less permanent than we once thought. According to archivists, after two years, 27 percent of social media, pictures, video, and blog posts vanish. For many who regret oversharing, this may be welcome news. But for historians eager to document the tweets that inspired the Arab Spring or who want a snapshot of how the Web looked on September 9, 2001, the impermanence of the Internet presents a challenge.

A recent report by Old Dominion (Virginia) University researchers Michael Nelson and Hany SalahEldeen found that after one year, about 11 percent of resources shared online are lost and that they continue to disappear at a rate of 0.02 percent per day.

Rebels have carried out a suicide bomb attack overnight on an intelligence agency compound in a suburb of the Syrian capital, Damascus, reports say.

The al-Nusra Front, a jihadist militant group, said explosives-filled vehicles had been blown up outside the Air Force Intelligence complex in Harasta.

Residents said there were several huge blasts, followed by fierce clashes.

One activist group said dozens of people were killed and expressed fears for the fate of the agency's prisoners.

North Korea said it has rockets capable of hitting the U.S., in the totalitarian country’s first response to the U.S. agreeing to let South Korea extend the range of its ballistic missiles.

The rockets are “within the scope of strike” of American military bases in Japan and Guam as well as the U.S. mainland, the state-run Korean Central News Agency quoted an unidentified National Defense Commission official as saying. North Korea “is prepared to counter nuclear attack and missile attack of the U.S., South Korea and all other following forces in kind,” according to the statement.
