The movie that started it all:
Quote
An indie film by Oscar winner Alex Gibney and the story of 740 Park Ave. This address is home to many billionaires but one in particular, David Koch. Mr. Koch was on the board of both WNET (NYC) and WGBH (Boston). WNET aired the film in it's entirety and then things began to get weird. "Park Avenue" was part of ITVS' series, "Independent Lens". Koch was not happy with way he was portrayed and his rumbling not only caused quake damage in NY, it went all the way to the west coast and ITVS' offices. At the time there was another film in the pipeline at ITVS, "Citizen Koch". A few months after the airing of Gibney's film, the deal for "Citizen Koch" was withdrawn though it had premiered well at Sundance. Apparently WNET did not do enough to make it up to Koch for his hurt feelings: he resigned from the board on May 16th.
The background for the above blurb came from Jane Mayer's excellent article "A Word From Our Sponsor" in the May 27th NEW YORKER.
