The methane hydrates mentioned here are seriously bad and are now thought to be the explanation behing the Bermuda Triangle. When one of them melts, the water column literally sucks down anything above it, fast! They have found undamaged wrecks off the European continental shelf where the hydrates are abundant.. And now the Japanese are spending 100's of millions trying to mine them. This cannot be good.
