Harry Reid recently said that Willard M. Romney is not fit to serve as a Cabinet member and “couldn’t be confirmed as dog catcher...Because a dog catcher, you’re at least going to want to look at his income tax returns.”

Not only won’t Reid back off of that statement, but now he’s doubling down on his assertions that a Bain investor said, “Harry, [Mitt Romney] didn’t pay any taxes for 10 years.”

According to information obtained and released by the organization WikiLeaks. Nations like France, which have moved to ban one of Monsanto’s GM corn varieties, were requested to be ‘penalized’ by the United States for opposing Monsanto and genetically modified foods. Spanish police have arrested three suspected members of Al-Qaeda carrying explosives in the southern province of Cadiz, a court official told AFP Thursday.

The source could not provide further details but Spanish radio station Cadena Ser, citing police, said the suspects were two Chechens and a Turk, who were carrying explosives and poison when they were arrested.

The three men had received training at an Al-Qaeda camp in Pakistan, were experts at handling explosives and making poison, and were planning to carry out an attack in Spain, the radio station added.

In America, a fast-food chain opposing gay marriage has engaged people in a way that politicians can only dream of.

Americans are apparently so bored with the 2012 election campaign that a chicken sandwich has easily taken over as the most interesting thing to talk about this summer. While Mitt Romney criss-crossed his way from London to Warsaw in an attempt to, perhaps, replicate the pre-presidential foreign trip Barack Obama pulled off with aplomb four years ago, back home in the US, everyone else was wondering what eating a fried chicken filet said about their morals. This is where politics now really lives, so eat it.

The backstory is well-known by now. The CEO of Chick-fil-A decided to let it be known how he felt about gay marriage (opposed it), spawning a backlash from consumers, some major municipal mayors, and – perhaps fittingly – the Muppets. The whole thing was quickly framed as part of a new cultural war that is currently tearing America apart at i ... Read more »

Michele Davis will join the Romney campaign to defend his reputation in the private sector. She brings her own baggage from Fannie Mae, and has been sympathetic to the Obama Administration.

Davis is currently a partner at the Brunswick Group in Washington, D.C., a corporate public relations and strategy firm, where she was reportedly the firm's lead — alongside then-Brunswick executive Hilary Rosen — in managing the oil company BP's public relations effort in the wake of a giant Gulf of Mexico oil spill. She served as Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs and Director of Policy Planning at the Department of the Treasury from 2006 through the end of the Bush Administration, and is a veteran of the politics and P.R. of government and finance.

Davis brings experience of navigating the highest levels of government and media, and a reputation as one of the most capable hands at the intersection of finance, government, and the press. She was on Capitol Hill for the ... Read more »

An independent group supporting President Barack Obama's re-election is preparing a $30 million advertising blitz in six battleground states this fall.

A person familiar with the plans says Priorities USA Action has reserved television ad time in September in Colorado, Iowa, Florida, Ohio and Virginia. Pennsylvania will be added in October.

Priorities USA Action was founded last year by two former Obama White House staffers in response to the proliferation of Republican-leaning independent groups that took place after the Supreme Court eased restrictions on campaign spending.

It has raised just $21 million since its inception. At the same time, the conservative groups American Crossroads and Crossroads GPS have pledged to spend $300 million this year.

MADRID - A controversial Spanish judge criticized the U.S. investigation into WikiLeaks on Wednesday, saying that the grand jury process which could lead to charges being filed against the secret-spilling site's founder is undemocratic.

Baltasar Garzon, a human rights lawyer best known for indicting former Chilean dictator Augusto Pinochet in 1998, recently agreed to act as an international co-ordinator for Julian Assange, the embattled WikiLeaks founder.

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad urged his military Wednesday to boost its fight against rebels, but his written call to arms only deepened a mystery over his whereabouts two weeks after a bomb penetrated his inner circle.

Assad has not spoken publicly since the July 18 bombing killed four of his top security officials — including his brother-in-law — during a rebel assault on the capital, Damascus. The president's low profile has raised questions about whether he fears for his personal safety as the civil war escalates dramatically.

The United States called the Syrian president a coward for marshaling his forces from the pages of the army's official magazine.

A horrifying amateur video from Syria emerged online, showing an apparent mass execution of pro-government forces in Aleppo at the hands of rebels from the Free Syria Army.

The footage shows several bloodied men stripped down to their underwear being forced to kneel by a wall amidst a throng of excited, machine gun-touting men.

Once their captors open fire, the camera jerks away as the crowd momentarily disperses, seemingly unprepared for the nearly 40 seconds of uninterrupted shooting that follows. As the gunfire dies down, shouts of“Allahu Akbar!” resound as the once skittish onlookers victoriously raise their guns in the air, approaching what appears to be a pile of stripped-down corpses.
